Farol

Alone in his lighthouse, having never seen the world beyond it, a lighthouse keeper creates his own version of reality from randomly selected words in an old dictionary — like a blind person trying to imagine a colour. For this puppet theatre performance, I conceived and developed Puppet Master, an interactive multimedia system for controlling DMX lighting, real-time camera feeds, recorded video and sound, and MIDI controllers. The system organises and triggers the different media elements during the performance through a cue-based control system. I also created digital animation content for projection. During the development process, holographic animations were explored as a way of overlaying digital imagery onto the puppets and scenery, together with real-time video. The latter was eventually incorporated into a robotic system inside the lighthouse, extending the character’s isolated world through a live visual perspective.
